CESI was created in 1958 by five major industrial groups (SNECMA, RENAULT, La TELEMECANIQUE, CEM and CHAUSSON) to answer their need to develop their employee’s skills.
CESI was the first to offer an alternative scheme based on a combined work-training system recognized by the Higher Education Ministry in December 1989: the Master in Engineering’s apprenticeship scheme.
CESI proposes 3 schools for higher education:
- Ei.Cesi, School of Engineering (3564 students, 883 graduates, 454 post-graduates)
- Cesi-Entreprises, Training Courses for Professionals (5235 students , 1790 certificates, 4088 in-company people trained)
- Exia.Cesi, School of Computer Science & IT (1100 students, 480 certificates)
The CESI group - key figures:
- 45 000 m² distributed over 26 sites
- 26 000 students, apprentices and trainees
- 670 salaried employees including 300 permanent teachers
- 2000 visiting professors
- 6000 partner companies that:
- Take on students and apprentices
- Supply students and apprentices with industrial projects
- Provide consultancy and continuing education
- Cesi Alumni: a network of 40 000 people
The CESI’s strong points:
1. An innovating school in close contact with companies and regional industrial realities
Set up by companies in 1958 (among which RENAULT, SNECMA (EADS) and SCHNEIDER) so as to meet their training requirements.
- Half of the activities are carried out directly with companies
- The teachers are in permanent contact with the realities of companies
- Every year, the integration of Cesi students into the labour market (after 6 months) exceeds 90%
2. A school specializing in the development of students’ skills and in work-based learning
- Teaching methods focusing on skill development
- Permanent teachers assist students in their training
- Students are guided in their career path (PFI - Viacesi)
3. A school that has kept a strong social dimension
What makes cesi different?
- Its links with industry, in France and abroad (more than 6000 companies involved in cesi training modules)
- An original scheme which efficiently combines theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience
- Innovative training approaches (problem based learning)
- Individual tutoring
